EX-GANGSTER IN COURT ON WEAPONS CHARGE
Evening Post
22nd December 2007
Celebrity former gangster Dave Courtney has appeared before
Bristol magistrates charged with possession of offensive weapons
and imitation firearms.
Courtney, aged 48, now an author and actor, was arrested after
police stopped and searched a vehicle in central Bristol.
A court heard officers discovered a gold and a silver
knuckleduster, an imitation Beretta 92 semi-automatic pistol, an
imitation Uzi machine-pistol and two boxes of ammunition.
Speaking to the Evening Post, Courtney claimed the weapons were
props for a fundraising show at a Bristol nightclub.
After he arrived at court, security guards who inspected his
briefcase found a leather mask, whips, four sex toys and two
books containing sex tips.
Courtney, of south-east London, denied all charges.
Representing himself, he joked with magistrate Jill Yeomans and
said: "My solicitor said you were just going to let me off and I
could just go home.
She replied: "Maybe he was wrong."
Courtney will appear at court on February 15 for committal for
trial.
